Lauderdale, Florida. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/citrix-ftl-hq.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 5px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/citrix-ftl-hq_thumb.jpg\" width=\"154\" height=\"104\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Started in 1989 with $3 million in funding the company now has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/symbol\/ctxs\" target=\"_blank\">estimated market value<\/a> of $14 billion dollar. <\/p>\n<p>This growth is achieved by developing products that help companies solve their issues and enable them to pursuit their goals. Products like XenApp (former Presentation Server (former MetaFrame (former WinFrame))), XenDesktop, XenServer, NetScaler, Branch Repeater, Provisioning Server and many (many!) more (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citrix.com\/support\/product-lifecycle\/product-matrix.html\" target=\"_blank\">product matrix<\/a>). <\/p>\n<p>With the release of each new version of a product more features are added,&#160; problems are solved and raises the bar for the competition. Both companies as IT professionals embrace each new versions with a loud applause, lots of marketing and geek speaks. All version except that feared version : <strong>6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each time Citrix releases a version <strong>6<\/strong> of a product the experts cringe and take a step back to evaluate the product from a safe distance, with the necessary precaution.&#160; In their minds it sounds \u201cversion 6\u2026.6\u20266\u2026!\u201d      <br clear=\"all\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Citrix-logo-grey.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Citrix-logo-grey_thumb.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How come? Well, do you remember XenApp 6? The version that was required for 2008R2 but got released before it was really finished (no separate roles for data collector and desktop server, and quite buggy). Or XenServer 6 (got some nasty bugs)\u2026 or Provisioning Server 6 (got some nasty bugs)\u2026. or recently Branch Repeater 6 (6.1 is released, consider upgrading to 6.1 or skip 6.0).<\/p>\n<p>XenDesktop is at version 5.6, with high expectation of new release announcements for the coming Citrix <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citrixsummit.com\/barcelona\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Summit<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citrixsynergy.com\/barcelona\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Synergy<\/a> in October\u2026 <\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Dear Citrix,<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Could you please skip version 6 for XenDesktop? <\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Regards,<\/p>\n<p>The author<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/blockquote>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disclaimer: In no way have I any bad intention with this article.
