After some unfruitful attempts, where settings were not applied, I found out that the <strong>client side extension <\/strong>for Internet Explorer Maintenance policies where <strong>removed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1>Internet Explorer Maintenance Extension<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/User-Configuration-Properties.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: right; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"User Configuration Properties\" alt=\"User Configuration Properties\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/User-Configuration-Properties_thumb.png\" width=\"154\" height=\"171\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>If you try to apply <strong>Internet Explorer Branding <\/strong>using the <a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc758017(v=ws.10).aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Internet Explorer Maintenance Extension<\/a> the following error is visible in the Resultant Set of Policy (RSoP):<\/p>\n<p><em>Internet Explorer Branding failed due to the error listed below. The specified procedure could not be found.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Group Policy Preference<\/h1>\n<p>Starting with Internet Explorer 10 internet settings in group policy objects (GPO\u2019s) are configured via<strong> group policy preferences<\/strong> (GPP) as described in <a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/jj890998.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Appendix B: Replacements for Internet Explorer Maintenance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With this information I figured to be done in 5 minutes but still I had some trouble configuring the settings. Why? Well, since our lab domain controllers run on <strong>Windows Server 2008R2<\/strong> (they need to be updated \u2013 Jeroen, <strong>*hint*<\/strong>) they have no clue what Internet Explorer 10 (or 9) is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Group-Policy-Managent-Editor-2008R2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Group Policy Managent Editor 2008R2\" alt=\"Group Policy Managent Editor 2008R2\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Group-Policy-Managent-Editor-2008R2_thumb.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"261\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately I was able to run the <strong>Group Policy Management Editor<\/strong> from a <strong>Windows Server 2012<\/strong> machine (<strong>Windows 8<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/nl-nl\/download\/details.aspx?id=28972\" target=\"_blank\">RSAT<\/a> will do as well), here you can configure settings for Internet Explorer 10 (or 9).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Group-Policy-Managent-Editor-2012.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Group Policy Managent Editor 2012\" alt=\"Group Policy Managent Editor 2012\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Group-Policy-Managent-Editor-2012_thumb.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"243\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I had to configure some basic settings in Internet Explorer 10 on our lab environment.
