By default this is a generated computer name similar to \u201cMININT-79S84T2\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Since the GUI of MDT is quite slow \u2013 and won\u2019t show an hourglass &#8211;\u00a0 I noticed people tend to click <strong>[Next]<\/strong> twice on the previous screen. As a result they automatically accept the generated computer name instead of providing their own. By changing the default computer name to a name that contains invalid characters the <strong>[Next]<\/strong> button is disabled (when an empty compute name is provided MDT will generate a <em>MINIT-xxxxxxxx<\/em> computer name). One way of providing a <strong>default <\/strong>computer name is in the <strong>Rules <\/strong>of the <strong>Deployment Shares<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open <strong>Deployment Workbench<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>Properties<\/strong> of the <strong>Deployment Share<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select tab <strong>Rules<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Add the following parameter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre>[Default]\r\nOSDComputerName=!Invullen<\/pre>\n<p><em>I\u2019ve specificied the Dutch word \u201cInvullen\u201d which means \u201cfill\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/#nl\/en\/Invullen\" target=\"_blank\">Google Translate<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click on <strong>[Apply]<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/MDT-Deployment-Share-Properties-Rules.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px currentColor; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"MDT Deployment Share Properties - Rules\" alt=\"MDT Deployment Share Properties - Rules\" src=\"https:\/\/ingmarverheij.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/MDT-Deployment-Share-Properties-Rules_thumb.png\" width=\"254\" height=\"210\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no need to update the deployment share, the rules file is read after the client connects to the deployment share.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\/<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Machine that are deployed via Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) are provided with\u00a0 a computer name that\u2019s provided during installation.
